3D Models To Go Home Please

Bonjour les parents! Please make plans to either pick up your child's 3D Pioneer model before or after school one day this week. Once again, thank you for all your hard work supporting your child in this endeavour. Merci! Madame Goold

More Pictures from "Le jour des pionniers"!

Here are the 3 class photos and the large group photo of all the Grade 3's from last week. Also, I'd like the 3D models to be sent home by the end of the week. Please let your child know if he/she is to bring the model home on the bus OR, if you're going to come and pick it up at school.  MERCI

All the Grade 3's:

Le jour des pionniers 2017!!

What a wonderful day it was! The students all discovered the challenges faced by pioneers in the 1800's during our activities on Pioneer Day.  We made our own butter, sewed twill bags, wrote/painted with quills, and played old-fashioned games using marbles and bean bags.

I loved seeing all the enthusiasm and excitement shown by my student "pioneers": the outfits, the healthy lunches (in either brown paper bags or baskets) AND, some students even walked to school!

During one of the blocks, all grade 3 students gathered in the Learning Commons to show off their 3D models as the rest of the students in the school came to see all the hard work and fun. We even got to taste our homemade butter on fresh bread.  Mmmm good!

Thank you to all the parent volunteers and spectators who came throughout the day. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves!  Merci....Madame Goold

(I will be adding more pictures to this blog in the near future!).

Pioneer Day Info!

This Thursday is our Pioneer Day! Thank you to all parent volunteers. Please come to the Learning Commons prior to the beginning of the block for instructions. I'm also looking forward to all the spectators that are planning on coming.
Do not forget to send your child to school dressed in "Pioneer-type" clothing, IF possible. Also, try to pack a lunch with non-processed foods in the paper bag that will be sent home on Wednesday. It should be a very exciting, fun-filled day!
Merci! Mme Goold

Parent Volunteers and QUIZ next week!

Bonjour! Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered so far for our Pioneer Day on June 8th. I am seeking more volunteers so please consider helping out during your child's French block. This day will be more successful with your assistance. Thank you in advance!

Also, please ensure your child practices this week's reading on "Les vetements".  Next week, we will have a reading comprehension multiple choice quiz based on that reading.

I LOVE seeing all the 3D models that have been brought in so far. Please bring your child's model to the Learning Commons and place it above the book shelves where the others are. Ensure that at least 5 items have been labeled on the project.

Merci beaucoup!
Mme Goold

Pioneer Slide-Show Projects

The Gr. 3's have been working hard on their Google Slide-shows at school, with their partners. We will hopefully have the projects completed this week and begin presenting them next week. If you would like to take a peek at your child's project, have him/her show you in their French Folder.
 Madame Goold

Please sign "le cahier"

Dear Parents...I would like you to sign the page in "le cahier" to confirm that you are aware that the 3D Pioneer Model Project is due June 1st. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please write them on the page. If you require a shoebox or materials, please list them and I will do my best to send them home with your child as soon as I can.
Merci!
Mme Goold
Here is another example of a 3D model from last year. Note the labels for the items. Students used a toothpick, sticky note and plasticine (to hold the toothpick in place). (Plastic animals can be used on the farm if your child would like to add them!)

French Projecs!

The students will be coming home with a newsletter today outlining the 2 Social Studies projects that are planned. The 3D model pioneer project will be due on June 1st and is to be completed at home (with or without a partner). The Google Slide-Show project will be completed at school with a partner. The criteria checklist for both projects has also been sent home.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Quiz on Thursday - Les pionniers

We will be having a very short quiz on Thursday to review the relationship between "les autochtones et les pionniers".  Please see the sheet in last week's "cahier de lecture".  Students will be required to list the types of cooperative activities that occurred, as well as the sources of conflict that arose between the aboriginals and the pioneers. A word bank will be provided. I will also ask your child to describe one cooperative relationship and one conflicting relationship between the two (this can be done in English).

Merci!
Mme Goold

P.S. I am in the process of planning 2 projects related to Pioneer Life (ie. Google Slide-show and 3D model). As well, we will be having a "Jour des pionniers" sometime in June. More information to follow.  Check out one of my students all dressed up for last year's Pioneer Day!

Les Autochtones et les Pionniers

We have been learning about the cooperation and conflict that occurred when the Pioneers chose to settle on land inhabited by the aboriginals in the 1800's in Upper Canada.  Please review the sheet sent home in "le cahier" and perhaps have your child explain them in more detail. You may also wish to explore the website: Pioneer Life to find out more information.

Next week, we will look at challenges that the Pioneers faced in daily life and ways they coped.

Aurevoir!
Mme Goold

Le Cahier- Les pionniers

Please practice the vocabulary on "les pionniers" sent home in Le Cahier. Knowing what the words mean will increase comprehension when reading and learning about Pioneers. Merci beaucoup! Mme Goold

Les pionniers!

We've begun our next Social Studies unit on Life in the 1800's.  Today, students were eager to brainstorm questions they had about what life was like.
For homework this week, I ask that your child visit: www.pioneerlife.ca and search for answers to some of the questions listed in "le cahier".  This is just an informal research activity. Answers do not need to be written down. Please do this before the long weekend.
Merci!  Mme Goold
Here is a picture from last year's "Jour des pionniers".

Merci!

Emily Goold

Le printemps!

Bonjour! I hope you had a relaxing break! We got right back into the swing of things today.  We began learning "Le printemps" vocabulary. We played charades with the words (you should try this at home: "Est-ce que c'est ...?"- Oui, c'est..../Non, ce n'est pas..."). Also, we created sentences orally. Please try to use the following words to help your child create sentences at home:

Sentence starters: Je vois, Je porte, J'aime, Il y a, Voici, J'ai, Regarde,
Prepositions: sur, sous, dans, devant, derriere, pres, loin, avec

Merci!

Gr 6 - Art & French Test

There will be a French test on Friday as a review of the verb tense "le future proche". Your child should have their French duo tang at home to review work done in class.  The "anchor chart" we created in class WILL be on display for students to use as a reference during the test.

Also, students will be creating an "Identity Collage" in Art and have been asked to send in at least 20 photos, magazine pictures and/or logos of things that relate to their personality (things they like, sports they play, family photos, pictures of things they use, etc...).  We have started to look through magazines at school already.  Pictures should be kept safe in the Ziploc bags provided.

Merci!
Mme Goold

French Homework- Due Tuesday

A sheet is going to be coming home to be completed by Tuesday. Students are asked to find out the ages of family members.  They are to ask:"Quelle age as-tu?"  Answers should be written in a sentence in French (see models on sheet). This will provide practise for the verb "avoir" (to have). Merci! Mme Goold

La famille

We have begun a unit on "La famille". Today we began to use the sentence starters "J'ai" (I have) and "Je n'ai pas" (I don't have) related to our brothers and sisters. We're also learning possessive adjectives in French (my= mon, ma, mes, your= ton, ta, tes, his/hers= son, sa, ses). Please refer to "Le Cahier" for oral practice at home. Your child will eventually be giving an oral presentation on his/her family, following a model.
Also, please ensure to continue to INITIAL the page read in Le Cahier EVERY day that your child practices. Merci! Joyeux St-Valentin!!
 Mme Goold

Les zones dans les communautés urbaines

We are continuing our "urban communities" theme this week. Please review the sheet in Le Cahier on the 3 zones in these communities. I would also encourage your child to explore Google Earth to find each of these zones in different cities. Next week, your child will be asked to think about what is found in his/her residential area (using a checklist in Le Cahier). We will also locate various cities on a map of Ontario. Mme Goold

Les communautés urbaines Gr. 3

We have started our next theme in our Social Studies unit on `Living and Working in Ontario`.  We are now focusing on Urban Communities in Ontario. Last week we looked at what cities have in common. This week, we will focus on the 3 zones within a city:

Toronto is Ontario (and Canada`s largest city!
